The Breakdown of a 100 Mile Running Week

I got a lot of questions on how much to run for the Ultra Beast. Obviously the answer is always “It depends”. Some people need to run more because they don’t have a deep run history. Others CAN’T run more because they don’t have a deep run history. Others have time constraints, and need to pick and choose what workouts to do since they can do them all. Others have to contain themselves do to injuries or a lack of durability. But what if you could do it all? What would the biggest week of run training look like? What if this was your passion, your vocation, your life? What would the Ideal look like? It would look like a 100 mile run week and it is the most you would want to do but if you do it, you will have legs made for ultra beasts! that is what I did this week and here is the break down.

Monday: 6 miles easy because Sunday you just did a big one! Add core and PT for me. I like to do a PM session of upper and lower body strength work and PT. That’s another 90 minutes of work.
Tuesday: 12 miles easy in the morning + 7 in the afternoon with 2 rounds of 4 x 40 seconds all out with 20 seconds of recovery and 2 minutes of easy jogging between. Vo2 max efforts simulate obstacles.  (19 miles for the day) (25 so far)
Wednesday: 13 easy because you killed it the day prior. 3 easy in the PM (41 so far)
Thursday. 12 easy with last 4 hard/tempo.  (53 so far.) I like to do a PM session of upper and lower body strength work and PT. That’s another 90 minutes of work)
Friday: 14 with some mountain repeats done at lactic acid threshold  (67 total so far)
Saturday: 8 easy because tomorrow is a brute! Mix in core and pull ups/push ups for another 30 minutes of work. (75)
Sunday: 25 miles of big mountain and trails! (100 total! You did it!)

(Photo: and if you do all that running you might even jump into the Block Island 5k Sand run and take second over all! Also you will want Warrior Pak compression socks on between workouts!)
